Please be aware that this course is extremely exposed. This event is very weather dependant so please ensure that you're happy with the cancellation policy before entering. On a calm day you'll cruise to the tower no problem. On a rougher day you may turn back at any point on the course. The creek area (first 400m) is generally calm and sheltered and the course will ordinarily become choppier the further you go towards the tower. By all means please swim to where you feel comfortable and experience true open water. Our amazing safety team will be with you the entire time.
The SwimRutland TowerSwim course starts and finishes at the Harbour cafe in Whitwell.
(the cafe will be open to purchase refreshments)
You'll head out into the mouth of Whitwell creek and the edge of the main body of Rutland Water. From there you will swim directly at the water tower in the middle of the main basin. After completing a U-turn on the south side of the tower you'll head back along the course to the finish line.
The course will be managed by an experience safety crew for two hours. You may complete multiple laps in your 2 hour swim.

16c and above = wetsuit optional in all distances
23c = Advisory Non-wetsuit for 2km
24c = Advisory Non-wetsuit for 4km+
If the water temperature does not reach 16c, this will be a wetsuit compulsory event. Please consider this when entering. There will be no transfers or refunds made because of the wetsuit policy.
The upper limit is discretional. We advise that you don't wear a wetsuit above these temperatures but acknowledge not everyone is here to swim as fast as possible and might require the extra warmth.

Unfortunately, we cannot make additional allowances for experience or preference. We appreciate your continued understanding.
